Golf Aids Can Help Beginners Play Well
Although golf looks easy, it is an extremely difficult game to master. Good, consistent mechanics are the basis of a good golfer. There is a great deal of training and practice involved in developing good swing mechanics. Choosing the proper clubs, balls, and other equipment can improve your chances of playing well, but also can be a challenge for a beginner. Fortunately there are some tips and golf aids that can enhance your golf experience.
The game can be simplified often through the utilization of beginner clinics or time with a trainer or club pro. Many courses, public and private, have a pro on staff that can provide lessons in the basics for a small fee. This pro is certified as an instructor and can help you with the finer points of the game.
Private lessons can be costly. Certain golf schools offer training clinics taught by professionals or respected players. These can be quite costly and do not provide individualized instruction. Group lessons and clinics are a cheaper alternative, but are also not based on your unique needs. Most people learn the basics of the game best through personal instruction. Tourist Traps and Truth Walks: Part 1
‘Tourist trap’ is a familiar phrase to any vacationer. Every city, every resort, every vacation spot in the world has them. If you’re not careful, you’ll spend a lot of money purchasing items that you just don’t need.
The phrase ‘tourist trap’ is any business or group of businesses specifically designed to separate tourists from their money. The quality of those products and the price one is willing to pay is in the eye of the beholder. And, I might add, based on the size of the wallet or purse of the buyer.
For example, a recent Associated Press release announced that the next great tourist trap could be the Moon. The company who pioneered commercial space travel by sending “tourists” to the International Space Station is planning a new mission: rocketing people around the far side of the moon. Rewriting Reformation History and Chuck Swindoll
In The Grace Awakening, his magnum opus, Dr. Charles R. (Chuck) Swindoll presents himself as fanning the flame of “the torch of freedom” as originally held by protestant Reformers like Martin Luther. In this he convinces his followers that by trusting him and his teaching in The Grace Awakening that they are in line with the historic Reformation teachings of grace and faith alone. Swindoll wrote:
“Achievement must accompany sincere faith … We continue to hear that “different gospel” and it is a lie. It is heresy. It is antithetical to the true message that lit the spark to the Reformation: Sola Fide - faith alone” (The Grace Awakening, p.86).
“When the sixteenth-century Reformers wielded the torch of freedom …grace was the battle cry: salvation by grace alone a walk of faith without fear of eternal damnation” (The Grace Awakening, p. xiv). Read more about Rewriting Reformation History and Chuck Swindoll →
Disguised and Christianized: On Deception
Was it a day like today? Did the dawn chase away midnight dreams? From mountain peaks to valley floors, surely all creation joined nature’s chorus as the Almighty’s symphony sprang to life. This voiceless choir sang utopian melodies of heavenly ecstasy while lions and lambs shared breakfast leaves.
Neither sharp words nor even weeds corrupted this unspoiled paradise. Did the bluebird’s breezy refrain awaken our earliest parents? Perhaps their eyes opened at the gentle shove of an affable beast. They loved and laughed and honor held sway. Then revolt. Betrayal!
By twilight the songbird’s refrain shed its felicity, and even the grass donned sullen hues. Sighs and gasps, sobs and moans rushed through swaying blades hunting for consolation but finding none. None. Melancholy waters lay motionless beneath orangey skies as the back of the Almighty’s creation bent under the weight of rebellion’s abomination. Bedlam seized repose, beasts growled and consciences demanded clothes. Offering rebellion no reward, a holy God, with cherubs and flaming sword, promised an end to sin’s vile discord.
