Life coaching is in a field of it’s own

Working as a life coach can certainly be a rewarding experience. Between counseling, therapy and psychology, life coaching is still a relatively new field. What makes it unique from other jobs is that the goal of life coaches is not to find answers. Instead, it is to guide clients to seek and find their own answers.

What makes a person interested in becoming a life coach? The exchange of lessons and experience is the main attraction of people to coaching. Both the client and the coach benefit from this experience. Personal development becomes vital in the process of learning how to work as a life coach — coaches themselves grow as they help others to grow as well.

If you are interested in becoming a life coach, you must be willing to make new discoveries about yourself, and be constantly open to learning news ways of looking at things. In fact, becoming a life coach can be part of your own pursuit of excellence.

What is your motivation?

The desire to be successful is not the only, or even primary, motivation for everyone who is interested in becoming a life coach, though it is certainly a good one. The best reason to become a life coach is to help others learn what they want in life, and then help them get it.

In truth, money is not what it’s all about for life coaches at all. It’s all about improving the world and assisting people. In fact, those who are only interested in becoming a life coach for monetary gain, tend to leave the profession fairly quickly. Life coaching involves helping yourself to grow and become more aware, while at the same time helping others do the same.

common characteristics of life coaches include the following:

  • They wish to have freedom for themselves, and freedom from financial problems
  • They enjoy being surrounded by people and want them to maximize their human potential
  • Their colleagues, friends and family approached them for opinions and help because they possess natural people skills
  • They want to live more fulfilling lives

Although the majority of people are happy to receive a life coach’s services, there are others that dream of becoming a life coach themselves. However, as you’ll learn as a life coach, it’s important for people to make career choices not exclusively based on their desires but also on their abilities.
